I don't mean to brag, but...

...Rex has gorgeous feathers.

Rex also has another appointment with the vet. I still don't think he's doing quite right. More blood work and another cytology at 5pm.

  1. Oh dear! Well, you certainly can never go wrong by following your instincts. Here's hoping he's well on his way to perfect health!

The three of us wish you well! (and yes, STUNNING feathers!!)

  2. Thanks! His blood work showed up clean and he got a clean bill of health from the vet. He has dropped weight though, so now the main goal is to fatten him up!

She thinks it has to do with him maturing and using all of his energy for new feathers and such. Did Agave lose any weight lately?

  3. Absolutely! When she was unwell she got sleepy, quiet, and she dropped three grams (down to 23 grams, just like Rex). We put her on antibiotics, as the vet wanted to do a "just in case" round, but I was so worried...she slept on my shoulder at the vet's :( So after meds were done and she still wasn't better, I spoke to the vet on the phone and she suggested upping her protein with egg whites, which we did immediately. We fed her only cooked egg whites and pellets for about a week, since she would choose seed/millet/fruit if given the choice, and within a week we had a vibrant, beepy, 28 gram birdie. And she's sprouting new feathers like CRAZY!

It's such a little body to have to produce so many feathers...focusing on diet seems like a good way to go :)

  4. That would have been so frightening to have such a lethargic bird. I'm so glad she's okay!

I ordered a scale (finally- I really should have been more prepared) to weigh him at home. I think he's plumping up, he looks and feels a bit beefier.

Rex loves his eggs- I should share some with him more often!

It's so nice to have someone going through new parrot-hood with us!
